Lean change management

Examples of the training's strengths:

  1. Experience a Lean project already during the training: the simulation game is a Lean project shared by the participants. The game is a joint Lean project. The game is suitable as a learning environment for different working environments, regardless of the business sector. At the end of the training, you will receive a self-experienced example to use as a model in your daily work.
  2. Lean improvements also when working remotely: You will learn how to lead Lean improvements and Kaizen even when working remotely.
  3. Digital learning environment: To support the contact teaching days, you will receive extensive training material in a digital learning environment.

Training is provided both on-site and remotely.

Lean Change Leader

Who is the training suitable for?

The training is suitable for people who want to learn how to improve practices and business processes based on Lean thinking and how to create a continuous improvement mindset in their organisation. The training is suitable for all industries. After the training, participants will be able to lead Lean and Kaizen improvement projects in their own organisation according to the model learned during the training and to lead teams in continuous improvement.

In the training, you will learn, among other things:

  • what Lean thinking means
  • a practical model of how Lean can be used to make processes more efficient
  • How to facilitate process improvement, also remotely
  • how to steer Lean change and create a sustainable Lean culture

Content of the Training

The 5-day training covers the following topics:

  1. Lean thinking: the 5 basic principles of lean (value, value chain, flow, suction control and perfectionism), which can be used to improve operations in stages. We will practice different Lean methods that can be used at different stages of process improvement e.g. value stream mapping, waste forms, bottlenecks, work balancing, Kaizen and visual guidance. Through these techniques, participants will learn how to put Lean thinking into practice in different processes. The training is built around a multi-part virtual Lean multiplayer game. As the game progresses, participants learn more tools and can put them into practice immediately.
  2. Lean facilitation: during the multiplayer game we will also practice different facilitation techniques, learn about the role of the facilitator in different situations, how to motivate the team, how to communicate at different levels and how to deal with problem situations. We will also practice how to run workshops in a virtual environment.
  3. Creating a culture of continuous improvement: at the end of the training, we will practice Lean change leadership and visual day-to-day management. We will practice how to build daily management boards, what it takes to make a successful change, how to measure and manage activities to achieve goals, and how to make improvement part of everyday work. The training will equip you with the skills to lead teams to a sustainable Lean transformation.
  4. Project coaching: During the training, we go through the participants' own projects and plans, for which the trainer gives advice and ideas. However, it is not necessary to have your own project to participate in the training.

Programme of training days:

Day 1:

Morning

  • Opening and status report
  • Lean thinking I: Basic principles of lean thinking, Lean operating model, project selection
    • Lean basics: What, why, when?

    • Defining a Lean improvement project, project scoping and Lean project plan
    • Video example of process improvement

Lunch

Afternoon

  • Simulation, part 1
    • Participants will practice the morning's lessons in practice in a virtual game: The current state of the process, the choice of improvement strategy, the definition of the improvement project, and possible first improvements.
  • Project example: Shortening delivery times
    • A practical example of how product delivery times were improved by 90% in two weeks. At the same time, customer and job satisfaction increased.

Day 2:

Morning

Learning experience

A unique way of training in Finland

We utilise modern teaching methods, the latest digital technologies and unique game simulation. We have combined theory with practical examples, group work, discussions, refresher exercises and an extensive simulation. Learning is also supported by a comprehensive digital learning environment. There is also plenty of time for practical applications in the participants' own environment.

1. Make a Lean project already during training

We have developed a new way of learning together with an international games supplier. We replaced the relatively short manual simulations commonly used in Lean training with an extensive digital multiplayer simulation that is more in line with reality. In our simulation, participants have a company. Each participant has a role to play in the company and a process to improve together. The process improvement in the game simulation is a Lean project shared by the participants.

The simulation is divided into multiple rounds. During each round, a lot of data is collected, which is utilized for process improvement. After each round, the situation is analyzed. The improvements decided by the team are immediately implemented into the simulation process. The game simulation is played every training day. The simulation progresses concurrently with the theory during the training, allowing the learned methods to be practiced immediately in a concrete process.

At the end of the training, the project of the game simulation is completed, and participants receive a clear, self-experienced example for future reference, documented in a ready-made project template. This template can also be used in their own projects.

The simulation is also a fun team exercise that nicely lightens the training.

You can read more about the method: Interactive simulation to support teaching.

2. User-friendly training material

In addition to contact days, the training includes extensive training material in a digital learning environment. The material is structured according to the Lean project steps of our training. Theory, models, videos, ready-made templates, tasks, discussions, etc. are integrated into these Lean steps in the learning environment.

The content of the learning platform supports contact teaching, enables varied learning and frees up more time for practice and advanced learning during training days. The learning platform also makes it easier to prepare for training and use the material in your own projects after the training.

You can read more about our learning platform at the link: New technology to support contact teaching.

3. Certified Trainer and "Leanified" Training

Our trainer in Finland is certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt DI Marja Jaatinen-van der Harst. Marja has more than 20 years of experience in applying Lean and Lean Six Sigma from international companies to SMEs in manufacturing, various service sectors and the public sector.
